MISSION STATEMENT
| Our mission statement outlines our aims, meetings, organisers and future plans. | ![]() |
"Women are I.T." is a
non-profit organisation providing a framework upon which women in
Information Technology can extend their network and expand their
knowledge in an environment which encourages open conversation
and debate.
The group is based in Melbourne, however it has grown to be
Australia-wide, with regular events being held in Adelaide, Perth
and Sydney. The first event was held in Melbourne in March 1997,
Sydney in September 1997, Adelaide in March 1998 and Perth in
July 1999.
What are our aims?
The principal aim is to learn
from, support and encourage each other to leverage our skills as
women, raise our comfort-zone and achieve our career-goals.
Over time, we envisage ourselves as an acknowledged body of
influence which raises the status of women in Australian business
and in the I.T. industry in particular.
How do we do it?
We want an environment which is conducive to open discussion and debate. This is via a superb lunch every few months at premium restaurants - Jacques Reymond (Melbourne), Hyatt Regency (Adelaide), Matilda Bay Restaurant (Perth), Observatory Hotel (Sydney). We have a guest speaker and generally the event is scheduled to finish at 5pm to encourage networking to continue throughout the afternoon. The charge for this is what is sufficient to cover costs.
Who are the organisers?
Jenny Barbour, Madeleine Sanders and Susan Coleman are the founders and organisers of the networking group.
