Roxanne is the Manager of the Industry Internship Program Office, a unit of the University of South Australia’s Mawson Lakes Campus. Commencing in 2001, Roxanne developed and managed a pilot program of university student work placements in industry, working as a consultant within ITEK Pty Ltd, the University’s commercial arm. The success of the pilot is highlighted by the fact that the targeted number of placements was tripled in under 12 months. As a result the University created a unit to implement the program university wide.
Additionally, Roxanne is involved with schools in the northern area of Adelaide developing pathways to tertiary study and has extensive experience in mentoring students at both secondary and tertiary levels.
Roxanne’s energy and enthusiasm for youth transition from secondary schooling, to tertiary to employment is evidenced in her previous work of delivering industry-relevant Vocational and Educational Training to schools. She founded the Technology Education Network Consortium which comprised representatives from the University of South Australia, Douglas Mawson Institute, Regency Institute, Windsor Gardens Vocational College and Christies Beach Vocational College, financially supported by the Australian Information Industry Association and the Electronics Industry Association.
Her previous experience includes owning and managing a number of small businesses, lecturing at Adelaide and Elizabeth TAFE, and workplacement co-ordination in northern South Australian regional centres.
She is a graduate of the Company Directors course provided by the Australian Institute of Company Directors, is a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute and the Safety Institute of Australia. Currently she is studying part-time towards a B Ed degree.
As South Australian Co-ordinator of WIT, Roxanne is keen to facilitate opportunities for women working in information technology areas to be involved in networking forums and mentoring programs for women in non-traditional careers.
